Fortune Repeats as Diver of the Year to Lead Women's Swimming and Diving to Fourth Place at OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio -- Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference diver Maddie Fortune (Akron/Firestone) was named the OAC Diver of the Year for the second straight year to lead the Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team to a fourth place finish at the OAC Championships hosted by John Carroll University in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW was fourth of seven teams with 349 points.   The University of Mount Union was the champion with 792 points.

Fortune was the runner-up in the 1-meter dive with 388.45 points.  She won the 3-meter on Friday night.

In addition, senior All-OAC performer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon) was the runner-up in the 200-yard butterfly in a career-best time of 2:11.53.  Freshman stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y. / Williamsville South) took fourth in the 200-yard butterfly in a time of 2:16.16.  Krupp swam a career-best time of 2:16.12 in the prelims. Sophomore freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) placed seventh in the 1,650-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 18:43.15. Sophomore freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) finished 11th in the 100-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 56.54.  Freshman freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darrien, Ill./Hinsdale South) was 14th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 57.48.  Onchuck swam a career-best time of 56.78 in the prelims. Sophomore freestyler Courtney Severns (Bucyrus) took 15th in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 57.80.  Severns swam a career-best time of 57.62 in the prelims. Senior freestyler Contessa Elliott (Ypsilanti, Mich.) was 16th in the 200-yard backstroke in a career-best time of 2:27.03. 

The NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships will be contested on March 16-19 in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
