Women’s Swimming and Diving Splits at Hiram Tri-Meet

HIRAM, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams split a pair of non-conference dual meets as they defeated Hiram College, but lost to the College of Wooster in the Alumni Memorial Pool at Hiram College.

The Yellow Jacket women (4-2) beat Hiram College (1-5) by a score of 174-66, but lost to the College of Wooster (4-1) by a margin of 168-102.

Leading the way for the Yellow Jacket women were senior All-OAC performer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon), senior All-OAC diver Maddie Fortune (Akron/Firestone) and freshman stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y. /Williamsville South).

Ashbaugh won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:11.54. Fortune remained undefeated in the 1-meter diving event as she won with a score of 210.65. She also finished first in the 3-meter diving event with a score of 196.35. Krupp brought home a win in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:43.97.

In addition, sophomore freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) finished second in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:49.78 and the 400-yard freestyle in a time of 5:01.39. Sophomore freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/ Massillon Perry) placed second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:13.83.

In relay action, the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ashbaugh, Kortis, sophomore freestyler Nicole Gladish (Fairview Park) and sophomore freestyler Courtney Severns (Bucyrus) won in a time of 2:00.97. The 200-yard medley relay team of Ashbaugh, Severns, Kortis, and freshman freestyler Claire Onchuck finished second in a time of 2:14.20.

BW returns to action on Saturday, November 14 when they travel to Erie, Pennsylvania for a meet against Penn State –Behrend in the Junker Center at 1 p.m.
