Yellow Jackets Set Two Records and Stand Fifth After Day One of OAC Swimming Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team set two school records and stand in place fifth after the first day of competition at the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships at the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW is fifth of seven teams with 89 points.  

Leading the way was junior All-OAC performer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon) who earned All-OAC honors and placed third in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:10.10.  Ashbaugh had the fastest qualifying time in the prelims in a school-record time of 2:09.94, which bested her time of 2:12.97 in last year's OAC finals.

Freshman freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich. / Pioneer) placed sixth in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:18.03.   She had a career-best time of 5:15.71 in the prelims.

In addition the 200-yard freestyle relay team of Ashbaugh, senior All-OAC performer Kayla Eyster (Canton, Mich./Plymouth-Canton), freshman Courtney  Severns (Bucyrus) and Miller placed fifth in a school-record in a time of 1:41.59.

The 400-yard medley relay team of Miller, senior Olivia Vocke (Napoleon), Ashbaugh and Eyster took third in a season-best time of 4:10.76.

 The Yellow Jackets are back in action on, Friday, February 20 for the second day of competition. Preliminary events begin at 10 a.m. and the finals are slated for at 6 p.m.  The final day of competition is on Saturday, February 21 with the prelims at 10 a.m. and the finals at 5:30 p.m.
