BW Women's Swim Team Sweeps Defiance and Ursuline

BEREA, Ohio --  The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team each swept Ohio Athletic Conference opponent Defiance College and NCAA Division II Ursuline College in a double-dual meet in the BW Natatorium in the Lou Higgins Center.

The BW women (7-5, 2-3 OAC) defeated Defiance (4-10, 0-6 OAC), 110-78. The Yellow Jacket women also beat Ursuline (0-9 overall), 92-37.

Leading the way for the Yellow Jacket women were junior All-OAC swimmer Chandler Ashbaugh (Napoleon) and junior All-OAC diver Maddie Fortune (Akron/ Firestone). Ashbaugh won two events individually and swam on the winning 200-yard mixed free relay (see above). Fortune won both diving events.

Ashbaugh won the 100-yard back in 1:02.77 and the 50-yard free in 26.16 seconds. Fortune won the one-meter voluntary diving event with 173.85 points and the 1-meter optional event with 223.35 points. The 200 mixed relay squad included Ashbaugh, junior Sean Rudolph Jr. (Warrensville Heights) and junior Contessa Elliott (Ypsilanti, Mich./ Ypsilanti). Allison won the 50-yard free in 23.15 seconds and the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:05.15.

The BW swimmers and divers are back in action tomorrow, Saturday, January 31, when the Yellow Jackets host Cleveland cross-town and non-league rival Case Western Reserve University on Seniors' & Parents' Day at 1 p.m.
