Men’s Tennis Aces Muskingum for 9-0 Shutout

MASON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team shut out Muskingum University 9-0 in Ohio Athletic Conference action at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.

BW (11-4, 2-3 OAC) played with an adjusted lineup in both singles and doubles and did not miss a beat. Junior Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete and All-OAC player Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) paired with sophomore ITA Scholar Athlete Jake Elbin (Findlay) to dominate Muskingum (1-7, 0-5 OAC) at No. 1 doubles in an 8-0 victory. Junior ITA Scholar Athlete Roger Boyer (Medina) and freshman Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) moved up from No. 3 to No. 2 doubles and notched an 8-2 win while senior Alex Papke (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) and junior Ben Binion (Shelby) matched up at No. 3 doubles for an 8-1 win.

In singles action, Polifrone, Elbin, Benotti and Binion all defeated their Fighting Muskie opponents by scores of 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No. 6, respectively as BW only surrendered a total of two games during singles play and five games overall.

With three more OAC matches left on the schedule, BW currently sits in sixth place. The top six teams make the OAC tournament while the top two seeds receive a bye to the semifinal matches. First round matches will be played on May 1.

BW will be back in action on Saturday, April 21, when the Yellow Jackets take on Capital University and Marietta College in OAC doubleheader action at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. at the Lindner Family Tennis Center.
