HILTON HEAD, S.C. – In its final match of spring break, the Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team defeated St. John Fisher (N.Y.) College 7-2 at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort.

Looking to rebound from the team's first loss of the year against Lynchburg (Va.) College on Tuesday, BW (9-1) swept all the doubles points to jump out to the early 3-0 lead. Junior Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athletes and All-Ohio Athletic Conference players Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) and Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) took care of their St. John Fisher (0-5) opponents and were the first to walk off the courts with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles. The other two doubles matches were a little closer but senior Alex Papke (Federal Way, Wash./Thomas Jefferson) and sophomore ITA Scholar Athlete Jake Elbin (Findlay) took care of business in an 8-5 win at No. 2 doubles. Over on court No. 3, junior ITA Scholar Athlete Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) and freshman Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) battled the Cardinals for an 8-6 win and the third doubles point.

Spreading out around the grounds, singles play got under way with a 6-1, 7-5 victory from Harris as he rallied his team by loudly proclaiming another point for the Yellow Jackets. Polifrone and Benotti were the next two to secure wins as Polifrone fought for his 6-4, 7-5 win at No. 1 singles while Benotti had to rally from a first set deficit to win 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5. Papke was the last man on the court and had to battle the strong winds for a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 6 and sending the Yellow Jackets back to Berea in style.

BW will have a few weeks before next taking the courts on Friday, March 30, for the OAC opener against the University of Mount Union at 3:30 p.m. at the Pop Collins Tennis Courts.
