Men’s Tennis Upset by Cross-Town Rival John Carroll

PEPPER PIKE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis was upset by cross-town rival John Carroll University by a final score of 6-3 in an OAC reschedule match at the Ursuline College Tennis Courts.

John Carroll (10-7, 7-0 OAC) won all three doubles matches against BW (22-2, 7-1 OAC) to take the early 3-0 lead.

In singles action, the Blue Streaks clinched the match as they won three of six matches Senior All-OAC and Academic OAC player Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) earned the victory at first singles in a match that featured the last two OAC Players-of-the-Year by scores of 7-5, 2-6 and 10-8 to improve to 27-3 on the season and 91-17 in his career. Senior All-OAC and Academic OAC playerDoug Ganim (Westerville/Olentangy Organge) won at second singles by scores of 4-6, 7-5 and 10-5 and is now 23-2 on the year and 84-17 in his career.  Senior All-OAC and Academic OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) upped his record to 27-1 this season and is third all-time in BW history with a record of 92-17 after winning his match at third singles by scores of 5-7, 6-0 and 6-1. 

BW is back in action on Tuesday, April 26 when it travels to Cleveland for a non-conference match against NCAA Division I Cleveland State University inside the Medical Mutual Tennis Pavilion at 7 p.m.   The Yellow Jackets close out the regular season on Saturday, April 30 when they travel to Cleveland for a non-conference match against cross-town rival and sixth-nationally ranked Case Western Reserve University on the Carlton Courts at 9 a.m.

BW will enter the OAC Tournament as the second-seed and will host a quarterfinal match on Wednesday, May 4 at 3:30 p.m.   The semifinal and championship matches will be played on Friday, May 6 and Saturday, May 7 at the Linder Tennis Family Center in Mason.  Friday's semifinal match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. and the championship match will be contested at 2 p.m.
