Men’s Tennis Opens 2015-16 Season with a Pair of Victories

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's tennis team opened its 2015-16 season with a pair of non-conference victories against Franciscan University and Grove City (Pa.) College.

The Yellow Jackets defeated Franciscan by a final of 8-1 and then shut out Grove City by a score of 9-0.

In doubles action, BW won all six matches.   The number one team of senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference and Academic All-OAC player Peter Harris (Akron/Revere) and senior All-OAC player Doug Ganim (Westerville /Olantangy Orange) won both of their matches by scores of score of 8-1 and 8-5.   The number two tandem of senior All-OAC player Kyle Patterson (Wooster/Triway) and freshman Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) posted victories by scores of 8-1 and 8-3.   The third team of junior Brandon Caynor (Norton) and senior Kevin Fredrick (Archbold) won their matches against Franciscan by a count of 9-8 with a 7-5 tie-breaker.  Junior Academic All-OAC player Nathan Katz (Upper Arlington/Bexley) and junior Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete Jake Liebler (Medina) recorded an 8-2 victory at number three doubles against Grove City.

In singles action, the Yellow Jackets won 11 of 12 matches; including have five players knock off both opponents.  Ganim defeated his Baron opponent with scores of 6-2 and 6-3 and won by scores of 6-0 and 6-4 against his Wolverine opponent at number two.  Patterson won at number three singles by scores of 6-0 and 6-4 against Franciscan and by a count of 6-2 and 6-0 against Grove City.  Polifrone picked up his first two collegiate dual match number four singles victories as he won by scores 6-0 and 6-3 against his Baron opponent and identical 6-0 marks against his Wolverine opponent.  Katz won at number five singles by scores of 6-2 and 6-3 against Franciscan and then by scores of 6-0 and 6-2 against Grove City.  Liebler rounded out the multiple BW winners as he won his fifth singles matches by identical scores of 6-2 against his Baron opponent and 6-1 against his Wolverine opponent.

In addition, Harris rebounded from his defeat against Franciscan to post a 6-1 and 6-1 victory against Grove City.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action and close out the fall portion of their schedule this Friday through Monday, September 25 to 28 when they travels to St. Louis, Missouri to the compete in the ITA Division III Central Region Championships hosted by Washington University.
