Men's Swimming Sets School Record on Final Night, Finishes Fourth at OAC Championships

AKRON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team placed fourth at the three-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by the Ohio Northern University in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.

BW, who set one school-record and had one All-OAC performer on the final night, was fourth of five teams with 319 points.  John Carroll University won the championship for the second straight year with 826.5 points.

The top three individuals and the top two relay teams earn All-OAC honors.

The Yellow Jackets were led by sophomore diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) and sophomore stroker Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls).  Rinaldi, who earned All-OAC honors in the 1-meter on Friday night, earned his second All-OAC accolade as he took third in 3-meter 11-dive event with a career-best 332.05 points.  Lockhart finished fifth in the 200-yard butterfly in a school-record time of 1:58.85 in prelims.

In addition, sophomore All-OAC stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) was seventh in the 200-yard butterfly in a career-best time of 1:59.60.   Freshman stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) took ninth in the 200-yard backstroke in a career-best time of 2:00.83.

In relay action, the 400-yard freestyle relay unit of Shaw, Morsch, freshman freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) and Lockhart finished fifth with a season-best time of 3:15.03.

The NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships will be contested on March 14-17 in Indianapolis, Indiana at the Indiana University-Purdue University Natatorium.
