ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team could not hold off the University of Mount Union offensive attack, ultimately falling 3-2 in an Ohio Athletic Conference overtime game.

BW (4-7-1, 0-2 OAC) was outshot by Mount Union (5-5, 1-1 OAC) 24 to 10, including 11 shots to five in the second half and four shots to zero in overtime.

A header by sophomore All-OAC forward Danny Ruple (Berea/Berea-Midpark) off a cross to the back post from sophomore defender Jake Woodruff (Willow Grove, Pa./Upper Dublin) got the Yellow Jackets on the board in the third minute, notching his 11th goal of the season.

Ruple then gave BW a 2-0 advantage in the 12th minute off an assist from sophomore midfielder Timmy Jonas (Fairview Park/St. Edward). Jonas switched on the ball and sent a long diagonal pass from the left to right side where Ruple was able to cut across the top of the box to put it away for his second goal of the game and OAC-leading 12th of the season.

While the Purple Raiders outshot the Yellow Jackets nine to five in the first half, both teams only put two of their shots on goal.

Mount Union cut the lead in half when sophomore midfielder Jon Schroeder scored his second goal of the season in the 50th minute. Schroeder then tied the game up in the 72nd minute.

Overtime was needed to decide the contest, however, as the Yellow Jacket back line battled for the final 18 minutes of the second half to prevent the Purple Raiders from sinking any of their final five shots.

After overcoming a two-goal deficit in the second half, the Purple Raiders came out on the offensive in the overtime period, taking three shots and a corner kick until senior forward Johny Akindipe scored the golden goal in the 96th minute.

BW will look to rebound from the overtime loss and earn its first OAC victory when it hosts Wilmington College on Friday, Oct. 6, at 7:30 p.m. inside George Finnie Stadium.
