BW Earns Fifth Win of Season; Zach Smith Scores Two Goals

NEW CONCORD, Ohio- -  The Baldwin Wallace University men's soccer team tabbed its fifth and first conference win of the season against Muskingum University, 4-1, Saturday afternoon at McConagha Stadium.

In the first half,  BW (5-7, OAC 1-0) scored the first points of the game at the 11:52 mark by freshman defender David Elsen (Cleves/St. Xavier).  Elsen knocked in his first collegiate goal of his career with a header off of a corner kick.  Aaron Harden(Mentor) was credited on the assist.  The Yellow Jackets would score their second goal at the 22nd mark to take a 2-0 comfortable lead.  Junior midfielder Zach Smith (Parma/Normandy) scored his fourth goal of the season on a header off of a rebound as senior forward Cody Smith (Brunswick) was credited on the assist.  Muskingum (4-7, OAC 0-1) would score on a penalty kick by Quenan Martin.  BW attempted 18 shots near the net to MU's one and had seven shots on goal.

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets continued to attack the net as Cody Smith scored his first goal of the game at the 45:12 mark as he beat his defender one on one.  The Yellow Jackets upped their lead to 3-1.  At the 65:25 mark BW's Zach Smith scored his fifth goal of the campaign to give the Yellow Jackets a 4-1 lead and sealed the victory for BW.  Harden was credited on the assist.  BW outshot the fighting Muskies 24-6 and on goal, BW had 12 shots at the net.  Freshman goalkeeper Ryan Asbury (Cincinnati/Turpin) tallied his fourth win of the season.

The Yellow Jackets will return home to Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium to take on OAC-rival Heidelberg University on Wednesday evening, Oct. 8 at 7 p.m. and on Saturday, October 11, BW will host Marietta College at 7 p.m.
