BW Men Win, 2-1, Against Wilmington

BEREA, Ohio- -  The Badwin Wallace University men's soccer team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College, 2-1, Friday evening on Tressel Field at The George Finnie Stadium. The victory was the sixth in the last eight games (6-1-1 during the time span) for the Yellow Jackets.

In the first half, BW (7-8-1, 3-1-1 OAC) scored the first goal of the match at the 7:18 mark when senior All-Ohio defender Trey Arneyy (Coshocton) knocked in a header into the bottom right corner of the net to give the Yellow Jackets an early, 1-0 lead against Wilmington (5-7-3, 0-3-2 OAC). Senior midfielder Michael Brennan (Akron/ Walsh Jesuit) was credited on his third assist.

The Yellow Jacket lead grew to 2-0 at the 42:33 mark when senior midfielder Ben Deighton (Richfield/ Revere) scored on a penalty kick. The score remained 2-0 at halftime. 

In the second half, the Quakers cut the deficit to 2-1 at the 75:36 mark when Daniel Wicks scored and Martin Holmquist was credited on the assist.

BW junior goalkeeper Zach Haynes (Medina) earned his first win this season and saved five shots between the pipes. The Yellow Jackets outshot the Quakers, 17-16, including an 8-6 advantage in shots on-goal. WC had an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.    

The Yellow Jackets will hit the road for consecutive matches beginning on Wednesday, October 22 when it faces Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University on Wasmer Field at Don Shula Stadium at 4 p.m., and then travels to Westerville to play OAC rival Otterbein University on Saturday, Oct. 25 at 2 p.m.  The next home match is on Tuesday, Oct. 28 versus Ohio Northern University at Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
