BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Men's Lacrosse Head Coach Trey Keeley has announced that senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Ben Kubiak (Wooster), senior midfielder Austin Routzong (Hilliard/Bradley), and junior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Nick Nanosky (Medina) have been selected as team captains for the 2020 season.
"I'm extremely excited about this leadership group for the 2020 season," Keeley began. "I think the most important thing about these men is that they are committed to building leaders on our team. They care about their teammates and want the best for the entire unit. We have a great mix of personalities," Keeley explained. "Ben is quiet but assertive, Austin is passionate and fiery, and Nick is consistent and a great communicator. They care about the men in our program, you can just tell by the way guys interact with them. It doesn't feel like a hierarchical structure. It feels like a big brother situation. Our freshman look up to them, and they are exemplary of what we're about as a program. The captains before them have paved the path, and I love where our tradition and culture is at right now. The best part is that our guys aren't content, they want more."
Kubiak, a three-year letterwinner, has appeared in 47 career games with 29 starts, scoring 76 goals and 32 assists for 108 points. Kubiak scored career-best and school record 53 goals last season, and was second on the team with career-highs of 20 assists and 73 points. He also garnered a career-best 43 ground balls, good enough for fifth on the squad. Off the field, he is software engineering major and a Jacket Scholar.
Routzong, a three-year letterwinner, has appeared in 35 career games, scoring six goals and four assists for 10 points. In 2019, Routzong earned career-highs of five goals, three assists, eight points, 38 ground balls, and six caused turnovers. Off the field, he is a finance major.
Nanosky, a two-year letterwinner and lone junior captain, has appeared in 29 career games, scoring 23 goals and 18 assists for 41 points. Last season, Nanosky was fourth on team with a career-best 13 assists, and also added career-highs of 16 goals, 31 points, 16 ground balls, and seven caused turnovers. Off the field, he is a pre-physical therapy major and Dean's List student.
BW will begin its 2020 season with its home opener on Saturday, February 22, as the Yellow Jackets host non-conference opponent State University of New York at Geneseo at 1:00 p.m. in George Finnie Stadium.
