BEREA, Ohio – Senior three-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y.) eclipsed the 100 career goal mark as the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team defeated Transylvania (Ky.) University 18-10 in non-conference action inside George Finnie Stadium.

Steinwachs tallied game highs of four goals and five assists for nine points to lead the Yellow Jackets (4-0), including the milestone score. Junior All-OAC midfielder Ben Kubiak (Wooster) netted a career-high tying four goals and added two assists for six points. Senior attack Blake Bower (Lewis Center/Olentangy) tied a career-high with his three assists to go along with two goals. Senior two-time All-OAC attack Mike Nanosky (Medina) and sophomore midfielder Nicholas Nanosky (Medina) posted identical lines of two goals and one assist while junior midfielder Riley Mahon (Palatine, Ill./William Fremd) and junior attack Drew Braden (Wooster) chipped in two additional goals each.

In the net, senior Academic All-OAC goalkeeper Nate Karatas (Penfield, N.Y.) also registered his career-best fourth win by setting a career high in saves for the second consecutive game with 16 stops.

Junior attack/midfielder Trenton Sneed led Transylvania (3-2) offensively with two goals and one assist. Senior midfielder Alex Cherry added two scores as the only other Pioneer multi-goal performer.

The game was tightly knit to start the first quarter. BW jumped ahead with goals from Nicholas Nanosky and Mahon before Transylvania got on the scoreboard itself to trim the deficit in half. After additional goals from Nicholas Nanosky and Kubiak, the Pioneers again halved the Yellow Jacket lead at 4-2. Needing just one goal entering the game to reach the 100 mark, Steinwachs's milestone score came with 7:22 left on the clock off an assist from Mike Nanosky. From that point on, Steinwachs and Bower assumed control of the offense and connected on the next three goals to put BW ahead 8-2 at the end of the first period.

After Steinwachs got the second quarter started with an unassisted goal, Transylvania ripped off three consecutive scores to come within four goals of the Yellow Jackets at 9-5. Nicholas Nanosky found his older brother Mike Nanosky for the last goal of the first half as BW held a 10-5 lead heading into the locker room.

Kubiak had the hot stick after the intermission, netting three of his goals in the midst of a 4-0 run that built up to a 14-5 Yellow Jacket advantage. Having weathered that offensive barrage, the Pioneers went off on a 3-0 run of their own, including one goal in the waning seconds, as BW led 14-8 when the third-quarter horn sounded.

Much like the start of the third quarter, the Yellow Jackets capped off their afternoon with yet another 4-0 run that featured both of Braden's goals as well as two man-up scores. Transylvania had the final say, however, with the final two goals of the game as BW held on for the 18-10 win.

BW hits the road on Wednesday, March 13, to take on the State University of New York at Geneseo at 2 p.m.
