Men's Lacrosse Ties School Record in Win over Marietta

BEREA, Ohio— The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team tied the school record for total points in a game in their 30-5 Ohio Athletic Conference victory over Marietta College inside George Finnie Stadium.

BW (7-2, 1-1 OAC) scored 46 points off 30 goals and 16 assists, tying the previous record set in 2015 in a victory against Franciscan University of Steubenville.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman midfielder John Schulte (Grosse Pointe, Mich./South) who had a career-high six goals in the win. Senior attack Blake Bower (Lewis Center/Olentangy) also added six goals and tacked on an assist while junior attack Drew Braden (Wooster) had a career-high five points off three goals and two assists. Senior attack Ethan Napieralski (Lancaster, N.Y.) tacked on three goals and one assist as well.

The Pioneers (3-5, 0-2 OAC), who are in the midst of their first lacrosse season since 2002, were led by freshman midfielder Zach Klein who scored three goals.

Junior midfielder Riley Mahon (Palatine, Ill./ William Fremd) opened the scoring for the Yellow Jackets at the 12:16 mark of the first quarter before a Marietta goal evened things up. BW regained momentum a minute-and-a-half later when a goal by Bower turned into a 9-0 run to end the quarter, highlighted by three goals for Schulte, two for junior All-OAC midfielder Ben Kubiak (Wooster) and another by Bower.

The second quarter got off to a quick start for the Jackets as three goals by Bower and one from sophomore attack Ethan Miller (Delaware/Hayes) extended the score-line to 14-1 by the 11:47 mark of the quarter. Schulte tacked on his fourth goal of the game just four minutes later which was the start a 4-0 run to end the quarter that featured four different scorers.

The first half momentum carried into the second as senior All-OAC attack Mike Nanosky (Medina) opened a 4-0 BW run ensuing in the following seven minutes, which was eventually stopped by a Pioneer goal at the 4:39 mark that brought the score to 23-2. Another Marietta goal three-and-a-half minutes later wrapped up the scoring for the quarter.

Goals from Nanosky, Bower and Braden kicked things off in the fourth for the Jackets before Marietta found the back of the net with a goal of their own at the 8:58 mark. With a quick response, Napieralski slotted one past the Pioneer goalkeeper, followed by another from Schulte. Just over a minute later sophomore defender Bryce Moran (Medina) scored his first collegiate goal, quickly followed by Marietta's fifth goal of the game. A final goal from Schulte at the 2:22 mark wrapped up the scoring for the Jackets at a final score of 30-5.  

The Yellow Jackets will next take the field on Wednesday, April 3, when they travel to University Heights for an OAC matchup against crosstown rival John Carroll University inside Don Shula Stadium at 7:00 pm.
