Football Adds Toth to Coaching Staff

BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Head Football Coach Jim Hilvert has announced that Nick Toth has joined his staff as a linebackers coach.

"I am very excited to have Nick join our staff," said Hilvert. "His experience, knowledge, and passion for the game will be a great addition."

Toth comes to BW after serving as the offensive coordinator at Lutheran West High School for one season.   Prior to joining the Longhorns, he served as a defensive assistant at NCAA Division I Fresno State (Calif.) University for one season.

In addition to Fresno State, he has coached collegiately at NCAA Division I Ohio University (1987-95).  During his time with the Bobcats, Toth was the defensive coordinator for five seasons, the special teams coordinator for three seasons and an assistant head coach for one season.   His defensive teams ranked in the top half of the Mid-American Conference (MAC) four times and his special teams units led the MAC in kick-off and punt returns on two occasions and were ranked twice in the top 10 in the nation in both categories.

"BW has always been one of the best Division III programs in the country," stated Toth.  "With the new football complex, it's facilities are second to none.  I'm excited about having the opportunity to help Coach Hilvert take the Yellow Jackets back to the top of the OAC and beyond."

Toth, a highly-respected coach in the state of Ohio, has served as the head football coach at Eastlake High School (1997-2007), Holy Name High School (1995-96), Toledo Central Catholic High School (1981-86) and Columbia High School (1978-80).  During his head coaching career, he has amassed 115 victories, won seven league championships, was named the Coach of the Year on six occasions and finished in the top eight of the computer playoffs on six occasions.  He also served as the President of the Northwest Ohio Coaches Association.

Toth also served as the defensive coordinator at Toledo Central Catholic (2010-14) and at Strongsville High School (2008-09).  He won two Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) state titles with Toledo Central Catholic in 2012 and 2014 as the Irish only lost four games in those two seasons.  In 2014, Toth was named the Northwest Ohio Assistant Coach of the Year.

In addition to his football duties, he has served as an Athletic Director, Assistant Athletic Director, and Assistant Principal.

Toth, who received a bachelor of arts from the University of Akron, resides in North Royalton with his wife Judy.

BW opens the 2018 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 30, when it hosts its first ever meeting against Alma (Mich.) College in the 41st Annual Lee Tressel Shrine Classic on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 6 p.m. OAC action is slated to begin with back-to-back home contests against Otterbein University on September 8 at 6 p.m. and a Community Day and Homecoming affair against Mount Union on September 15 at 2 p.m. The season will conclude with a trip to crosstown rival John Carroll on November 10 in the 30th Annual Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy.
