BEREA, Ohio – Baldwin Wallace University Head Football Coach Jim Hilvert announced that Matt Hanhold has joined his staff as the linebackers and special teams coach.
"We are very excited to have Matt part of the BW Football Family," stated Hilvert. "He has a lot of experience at the Division III level to go along with being a proven recruiter. The two words that kept coming up in this process was tireless worker and great person! Matt will definitely be an asset to the athletic program."
Hanhold comes to BW after serving as the head coach at Cincinnati Country Day High School for one season. He mentored the 2017 Anthony Munoz Division VI Defensive Lineman of the Year, two first-team All-Miami Valley Football Conference and All-Southwest District linebackers and an Ohio Football All-Star.

Prior to Country Day, Hanhold was an associate head coach at Colby (Maine) College for five seasons. He also served as the co-defensive coordinator, defensive line coach, recruiting coordinator, academic coordinator, assistant baseball coach, director of track operations and co-director of club sports during his tenure.
Hanhold also had coaching stops at Buffalo State (N.Y.) University and at NCAA Division II Clarion (Pa.) University. He served as the wide receivers and junior varsity coach for the Bengals from 2008-12 and was a graduate assistant coach working with the wide receivers and defensive backs for the Golden Eagles from 2006-08.
Hanhold obtained a Bachelor of Arts in political science from Westminster (Pa.) College in 2006 and a Master's of Science in rehabilitative services from Clarion in 2008. While at Westminster, he was a three-year letterwinner on the defensive line, a President's Athletic Conference selection as a junior, a team captain and served as a student assistant track coach.
Hanhold, a native of Youngstown and graduate of Cardinal Mooney High School, is a member of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA).
BW opens the 2018 campaign on Thursday, Aug. 30, when it hosts it first ever meeting against Alma (Mich.) College in the 41st Annual Lee Tressel Shrine Classic on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 6 p.m. OAC action is slated to begin with back-to-back home contests against Otterbein University on September 8 at 6 p.m. and an Community Day and Homecoming affair against defending NCAA Division III Champion University of Mount Union on September 15 at 2 p.m. The season will conclude with a trip to cross-town rival John Carroll on November 10 in the 30th Annual Battle for the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy.
