Men's Swimming and Diving Picks Up OAC Victory Over Wilmington

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving teams opened the 2017-18 Ohio Athletic Conference season as it defeated Wilmington College in the BW Natatorium.

BW (1-1, 1-0 OAC) defeated Wilmington (0-1, 0-1 OAC) by a final score of 102-97.  

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior All-American Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and sophomore diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) as each won a pair of events.   Thompson won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:06.48 and captured the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 59.97 seconds. Evan Rinaldi won both the 1-meter diving events with total points of 130.05 and 122.05.

In addition, freshman freestyler/diver Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) was the runner-up in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard freestyle in a times of 1:54.77 and 51.62 seconds and was third in the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:30.63.  Sophomore stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 53.67 seconds and placed second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.17 seconds.  Freshman stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) won the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 58.48 seconds and was third in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.92 seconds. Sophomore stroker Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) took third in the 200-yard individual medley and the 100-yard butterfly in a times of 2:13.92 and 58.04.  Freshman Kyle Cordrey (Mansfield/Ontario) was second in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 56.42 seconds. Junior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon)placed second in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:01.92.  Junior freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) placed third in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 53.50.

In relay action, the 200-yard medley squad of Morsch, Thompson, Shaw and Beyer took first in a time of 1:40.47.  The 200-yard freestyle quad of junior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon), freshman stroker Nicholas Borghi (Dayton, N.J./South Brunswick), freshman freestyler Connor Hartup (Westlake) and Rinaldi finished second in a time of 1:44.51 

BW is back in action on Saturday, October 28 when it hosts a non-conference dual meet against Bethany (W. Va.) College in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
