Men's Swimming and Diving Falls to John Carroll in OAC Dual Meet

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team fell 147-64 to Ohio Athletic Conference and crosstown rival John Carroll University inside the William H. Johnson Natatorium. 

Senior All-American stroker Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) and sophomore All-OAC stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) each notched wins in individual events. Thompson took home the victory in the 200-yard breaststroke in 3:26.99 while Shaw won the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.73.

In the 50-yard freestyle, Shaw and Thompson went second and third in times of 23.03 and 23.09 seconds, respectively.

Freshman freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) was the runner-up in two separate events. In the 200-yard freestyle, the freshman swam a career-best time of 1:52.02 and followed it up with a time of 5:22.99 in the 500-yard freestyle.

In relay action, the 400-yard freestyle relay team of Butt, junior freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial), sophomore freestyler Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) and junior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon) won the event in 3:26.99. Freshman stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory), Thompson, Shaw and Lockhart were the runners-up in the 400-yard medley relay.

BW is back in action when the Yellow Jackets wrap up the home portion of its schedule with a non-conference tri meet with Franciscan University of Steubenville and the University of Pittsburgh and Bradford on Saturday, January 27, at 1 p.m. inside the BW Natatorium.
