Men's Swimming and Diving Defeats Manchester (Ind.) to Continue Winning Ways

NORTH MANCHESTER, IND. – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving teams continued its winning ways as it posted its third straight victory as it defeated Manchester (Ind.) University in a non-conference dual meet inside the Strauss-Peabody Aquatics and Fitness Center.

BW (3-1) defeated Manchester (0-1) by a final score of 183-65.   The Yellow Jackets had 11 individual champions and two relay winners.

BW was led by senior All-American stroker Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) as he won three events as he captured the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 59.77 seconds, the 200-yard breaststroke in a season-best time of 2:18.11 and the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:07.73.

In addition, sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) and freshman freestyler Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) each won two events.   Shaw took home the wins in the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 51.15 seconds and the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 55.70 seconds.  Butt won the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 1:55.01 and the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 5:28.98.

Also, winning events were freshman freestyler Connor Hartup (Westlake), freshman stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory), sophomore stroker Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) and junior freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial).  Hartup won the 1000-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 12:05.36.   Morsch earned the victory in the 100-yard backstroke in a time 59.31 seconds.  Lockhart captured the 200-yard butterfly in a season-best time of 2:10.20.  Beyer touched the wall first in the 200-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 2:12.97.

In Yellow Jacket relay action, the 200-yard medley relay unit of Morsch, Thompson, Shaw and junior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon) won in a time of 1:41.35.  The 200-yard freestyle relay team of Beyer, freshman stroker Kyle Cordrey (Mansfield/Ontario), Butt and Lockhart brought home the win in a time of 1:34.56.

BW is back in action on Saturday, November 11 when it travels to Erie, Pennsylvania for a non-conference dual meet against Penn State Behrend College inside the Junker Center at 1 p.m.
