Men's Swimming and Diving Team Drops Season Opener to Ohio Wesleyan

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's swimming and diving teams opened the 2017-18 season as it dropped a non-conference dual meet to Ohio Wesleyan University in the BW Natatorium.

BW men (0-1) fell to Ohio Wesleyan (1-0) by a final score of 144-83.   

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior All-American Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 59.16 second and was the runner-up in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:04.61. Sophomore diver Evan Rinaldi (Cleveland/Cleveland Heights) won the six-dive 1-meter event with a career-best score of 140.85 and was second in the five-dive 1-meter event with 103.50 points.  Freshman freestyler/diver Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) won the five-dive and 1-meter event with 108.5 points, was third in the 200-yard freestyle and third the 100-yard freestyle in a times of 1:54.17 and 50.91 seconds. 

In addition, sophomore stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) won the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 53.45 seconds. Junior freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) tied for second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 23.33 seconds. Sophomore stroker Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) placed third in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 57.12Freshman stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory) placed third in the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 59.67. 

In relay action, the 200-yard medley squad of Beyer, Thompson, Shaw, Morsch finished second in a time of 1:40.69.  The 200-yard freestyle quad of junior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon), freshman stroker Kyle Coudrey (Mansfield/Ontario), Lockhart and Shaw finished second in a time of 1:34.20.

BW is back in action on Saturday, October 21 when it opens up Ohio Athletic Conference action when it hosts Wilmington College in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
