AKRON, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University men's swimming and diving team set one school record and is in fifth place after the first day of competition at the Ohio Athletic Conference Championships hosted by Ohio Northern University in the Ocasek Natatorium on the campus of the University of Akron.
BW is fifth of five team with 85 points after day one. John Carroll leads the after the first day competition with 219 points.
The top three individuals and the top two relay teams earn All-OAC honors.
Highlighting the first day of competition was the 400-yard medley relay unit of freshman stroker Michael Morsch (Phoenix, Ariz./Notre Dame Preparatory), senior All-American stroker Tyler Thompson (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights), ophomore All-OAC stroker Greg Shaw (Colorado Springs, Colo./Manitou Springs) and sophomore freestyler Austin Lockhart (Olmsted Falls) set the school-record with a time of 3:30.32 as it took third.
In addition, Thompson finished 10th in the 200-yard individual medley in a season-best time of 1:58.53. Lockhart was 12th in the 200-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 2:04.46. Shaw and Morsch tied for 12th in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.08 seconds. Shaw and Morsch each swam career-best times of 21.87 and 22.00 in the prelims. Freshman Matthew Butt (Westfield Center/Cloverleaf) finished 15th in the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 5:02.77.
The 200-yard freestyle unit of Shaw, junior freestyler Tyler Allison (Napoleon), Thompson and junior freestyler John Beyer (Columbus/Centennial) finished fourth in a season-best time of 1:27.30.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action for the second day of the OAC Championships on Friday, February 16. Preliminary action will begin at 10 a.m. and the finals will be contested at 6 p.m. The OAC Championships will be contested on Saturday, February 17.
