Men’s Lacrosse Drops Non-Conference Game to Transylvania (Ky.)

LEXINGTON, Ky. -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team suffered its second loss of the season as it fell to Transylvania (Ky.) University by a final score of 10-6 in the 4th Street Athletics Complex. 

BW (3-2) led Transylvania (1-2) by a score of 3-2 after the first quarter.  The Pioneers held the Yellow Jackets scoreless in the second quarter as it scored the lone goal to tie the game at 3-3.  Transylvania outscored BW by a margin of 4-1 in the third quarter to led 7-4 after three periods.  The Pioneers held off the Yellow Jackets in the fourth quarter as it held a 3-2 advantage in goals. 

The Yellow Jackets were led by senior midfielder Tanner Roberts (Murrysville, Pa./Franklin Regional) as he netted two goals and one assist for three points.  Senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) scored two goals.  Two other BW players tallied a score.

In net for the Yellow Jackets, senior All-OAC goalie Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) took the loss as he allowed 10 goals on 18 shots with eight saves.

In the first quarter, Transylvania took the early 2-0 lead with its last goal coming at the 12:58 mark.  BW scored the final three goals of the stanza.  Riemenschneider opened the scoring when he found the back of the cage off the assist from freshman midfielder Nicholas Nanosky (Medina) at 11:56. Junior All-OAC attack Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) scored the second goal off the assist from Roberts at the 6:38 mark.  Junior All-OAC attack Mike Nanosky (Medina) closed out the opening quarter scoring when tallied the unassisted goal with 55 seconds remaining.

The Pioneers got the only goal of the second period at the 1:40 mark to tie the game at 3-3.

Transylvania opened the third quarter on a 3-0 run as it got its final goal at 6:38. The Yellow Jackets cut the lead down to 6-4 when Roberts scored the goal off the assist from Steinwachs at the 5:58 mark.  The Pioneers netted the final goal of the period with 1:39 remaining to lead 7-4.

BW opened the fourth quarter scoring when Riemenschneider found the back of the cage off the assist from senior midfielder Alex Binner (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) to cut the lead down to 7-5 at the 13:26 mark.  Transylvania scored its final three goals to take a 10-5 lead with the last coming at 4:38. The Yellow Jackets closed out the scoring when Roberts netted the goal off the assist from Steinwachs with 2:26 remaining.

BW opens the home portion of its schedule on Saturday, March 10 when it hosts a non-conference game against Alma (Mich.) College on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 2 p.m.
