OLIVET, Mich. -- The Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse team scored 26 or more goals for the second straight game as it defeated Olivet College in a non-conference game by a final score of 28-5 inside the Cutler Athletic Complex.
BW (2-0), who had 16 different players score, was led by junior Mike Nanosky (Medina) scored a career-high tying four goals and added two assists for a career-best six points. Sophomore attach Justin Presutti (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) scored a career-high four goals for a career-best four points. Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference attack Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North) scored three goals. Senior attack Alex Binner (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North), freshman midfielder Quinn Colwell (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area), freshman attack Ethan Miller (Delaware/Hayes) and freshman midfielder Nicholas Nanosky (Medina) all contributed two goals.
In net for the Yellow Jackets who have outscored their opponents 54-6 in their first two games, senior All-OAC netminder Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson), who only played the first half, did not allow a goal as he faced 15 shots and made eight saves. Freshman goalkeeper Trent Davis (Ottawa Hills), who played 18 minutes in the second half, allowed five goals as he faced 11 shots with two saves. Junior goaltender Nate Karatas (Penfield, N.Y.) played the final 11:43 and did not allow a goal as he faced five shots with three saves.
Olivet (0-2) was led by senior midfielder Cameron Bazin as he scored all five goals.
In the first quarter, BW scored all six goals and was led by Steinwachs with three goals with his last coming at the 2:41 mark. The Yellow Jackets also got goals from senior All-OAC midielder Derek Andrews (Alden, N.Y./Iroquis), Binner and Mike Nanosky with the last coming from Mike Nanosky with eight seconds remaining,
BW tacked on seven more goals in the second stanza to push the score to 13-0. Mike Nanosky led the attack with two goals with the last coming at the 4:09 mark. The Yellow Jackets got five other goals from Binner, Miller, Presutti, junior midfielder Thomas Moesch (Ithaca, N.Y.) and sophomore midfielder Riley Mahon (Palatine, Ill.) with the Mahon goal coming with 2:16 left in the first half.
BW held its second straight opponent scoreless in the first half and has outscored its opponents 24-0 in the opening half.
In the third quarter, BW extended its lead to 17-0 as it got two goals from Mike Nanosky and one each from senior All-OAC attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) and Colwell. Colwell's goal came at the 9:59 mark. The Comets scored the next two goals both coming from Bazin with the last coming at 7:59. The Yellow Jackets added a goal from sophomore midfielder Ben Kubiak (Wooster) at 5:25 before Olivet's Bazin score his third goal of the period at the 3:32 mark. BW got its final score of the quarter as it went up 19-3 when Presutti found the back of the cage at 2:29. The Comets closed out the scoring and cut the margin down to 19-5 when Bazin scored once again with 57 seconds remaining.
The Yellow Jackets scored nine goals in the fourth quarter for the second straight game. BW got two goals from Presutti and Nicholas Nanosky. The Yellow Jackets got five more goals from freshman midfielder Andrew Hodgens (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill), freshman Gage Schneider (Hamburg, N.Y.), sophomore midfielder Austin Routzong (Hilliard/Bradley), Miller and the last goal from senior midfielder Brady King (West Seneca, N.Y./Bishop Timon-St. Jude) with 55 seconds remaining.
BW is back in action on Tuesday, February 27 when it travels to Frostburg, Maryland for a non-conference game against Southern Virginia University in Bobcat Stadium on the campus of Frostburg State University at 11 a.m. The Yellow Jackets then travel to Latrobe, Pennsylvania for a non-conference game against St. Vincent College on Chuck Noll Field at 3 p.m.
