Men’s Lacrosse Defeats Wilmington for Second Straight OAC Victory

BEREA, Ohio – In just its second home game of the year, the Baldwin Wallace University men's lacrosse won its second straight Ohio Athletic Conference game as it defeated Wilmington College by a final score of 29-2 on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (6-2, 2-0 OAC) improved to 5-0 all-time versus Wilmington (3-5, 0-2 OAC).  The Yellow Jackets, who have now scored 29 goals twice this season, have now outscored the Quakers by a margin of 90-28.

BW held a 11-1 advantage after the first quarter.   The Yellow Jackets held the Quakers scored scoreless in the second quarter as they tallied eight goals to lead 19-1 at halftime.  BW outscored Wilmington by a margin of 5-1 in the third quarter.  The Yellow Jackets scored the only four goals of the fourth quarter.

BW was led by junior All-OAC attack Chad Steinwachs (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville North), who is this week's OAC Offensive Player of the Week, scored four goals and added six assists for 10 points.  Sophomore attack Justin Presutti (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) scored a career-high six goals.  Senior All-OAC attack Brock Riemenschneider (Rocky River) as he scored four goals and added one assist for five points.  Freshman attack Ethan Miller (Delaware/Hayes) tallied a career-high four goals.  Freshman midfielder Quinn Colwell (Glenshaw, Pa./Shaler Area) scored a career-best three goals.  Junior All-OAC attack Mike Nanosky (Medina) chipped in two goals. 

In net for the Yellow Jackets, senior All-OAC goalie Mike Dizonno (Buffalo Grove, Ill./Adlai E. Stevenson) played the entire first half and allowed one goal with four saves.  Junior netminder Nate Karatas (Penfield, N.Y.) allowed one goal with one save in 15 minutes of action.  Freshman goalkeeper Trent Davis (Ottawa Hills) did not allow a goal with two saves in 8:51 minutes of action.  Sophomore goalie Connor Lalime (Buffalo, N.Y./Williamsville East) played the final 6:09 minutes and did not allow a goal with one save. 

In the first quarter, BW scored the first 11 goals before Wilmington tallied the final score of the period with four seconds remaining.  The Yellow Jackets got two goals each from Mike Nanosky, Riemenschneider and Steinwachs.  BW got its final tally of the opening stanza when junior midfielder Thomas Moesch (Ithaca, N.Y.) found the back of the cage with 33 seconds remaining.

The Yellow Jackets scored the only eight goals of the second quarter as they were led by Riemenschneider, Steinwachs and Presutti with two goals each.   BW got a goal each from junior All-OAC midfielder Matt McDowell (East Amherst, N.Y./Williamsville North) and freshman midfielder Gage Schneider (Hamburg, N.Y.).  Steinwachs scored the final goal of the first half with 35 seconds left. 

The Yellow Jackets scored the first five goals of the third quarter before Wilmington scored its second goal with 1:59 left.   BW was led by Presutti as he scored three goals including the final tally of the period with 1:36 remaining.

The Yellow Jackets scored the only five goals of the final quarter.  BW was led by Miller with two goals.   The Yellow Jackets closed out the scoring when Presutti netted his sixth goal with 54 seconds remaining.

BW is back in action on Wednesday, April 4 when it hosts an OAC game against Heidelberg University on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
