Baseball Defeats Defiance in Non-Conference Matchup

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball team defeated Defiance College by a score of 5-3 in a non-conference matchup at Fisher Field.

BW (6-5) fell behind early but answered back with two runs in the bottom of the first to tie the game. The Yellow Jackets took the lead in the third with two more runs and plated an insurance run in the fifth to seal the victory.

BW was led by senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate) as he notched one hit with three runs-batted-in. Senior second baseman Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth) got on base four times,scored twice and recorded two hits and two walks. Senior two-time Academic All-Ohio Athletic Conference Reese Albright (Parma/North Royalton) drove in two runs and recorded a hit. Sophomore infielder Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan) crossed home three times and had a hit while senior catcher Asa Adams (Sarver, Pa./Knoch), junior outfielder Sam Sustersic (Richfield/Revere), and senior two-time Academic All-OAC outfielder Andy Blough (Wooster/Smithville) each tallied a hit.

Getting the start was senior American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings All-Mideast Region and All-OAC right-handed-pitcher Danny Cody (Medina/ Brecksville-Broadview Hts.), whose line included six innings pitched with three runs off two hits and a career-tying 12 strikeouts in the win. Freshman Garrett Miller (McMurray) got his first collegiate save after dealing three innings of no run baseball with two strikeouts.

BW will conclude thier homestand with a game against Alma (Mich.) College tomorrow at 2 p.m and will travel to Oberlin College on Tueday, March 19 for a game at 3 p.m.
