AUSTINTOWN, Ohio – Head Coach Brian Harrison and senior American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings All-Mideast Region and two-time All-Ohio Athletic Conference pitcher Danny Cody (Medina/Brecksville-Broadview Hts.) highlight the Baldwin Wallace University baseball All-OAC accolades. In addition, six Baldwin Wallace University baseball student-athletes land on the 2019 All-OAC team.
Landing on the first team was Cody, senior first baseman Philip Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./Saint Joseph's Collegiate), and sophomore shortstop Alex Ludwick (Brunswick/Padua Franciscan). Slotted on the second team was senior second baseman Kyle Pennington (Wadsworth), senior catcher Asa Adams (Sarver, Pa./Knoch), and senior left-handed pitcher Jack Raines (Akron/Archbishop Hoban).
Brian Harrison, who has won his first ever OAC Coach of the Year award, led the Yellow Jackets to a regular season title, the school's eighth overall and first since the 1988 season. In 2018, he led BW to its first OAC Tournament title since 1985 and won his 200th game here at BW.
Cody was named the Kent Tekulve OAC Pitcher-of-the-Year, the 19th recipient of the award. Cody earns this recognition after breaking his previous school-record of 100 strikeouts in 2018, with 103 this year, to lead the OAC. The righty also owns the season win record with 9, which also leads the OAC. This campaign Cody is 9-1 with 12 games started, 76.2 innings pitched with an earned-run-average (ERA) of 1.89. In his career, Cody has accumulated 58 appearances with 32 games started, a 19-8 overall record with two saves, 218 innings pitched, 256 strikeouts, and a 3.39 ERA.
Wells lands on the first-team after setting career-highs in at-bats(153), runs scored(33), hits(56), runs batted-in(45), and stolen bases(5) this season. The lefty has 11 doubles, two homeruns, a .366 batting-average, .451 on-base percentage, and 73 total bases in 40 games played. For his career, the first baseman has played in 139 games with 393 at-bats, 68 runs scored, 136 hits, 29 doubles, one triple, five homeruns, 90 RBI, seven stolen bases, a .346 batting average, and an on-base percentage of .432.
Rounding out the first team was Ludwick, with his first All-OAC selection. In his sophomore campaign he appeared in 39 games with 169 at-bats, 36 runs scored, 52 hits, 10 doubles, six triples, 29 RBI, seven stolen bases, a .308 batting average, 74 total bases, and 16 extra-base hits. For his career, Ludwick has played in 84 games with 347 at-bats, 79 runs scored, 111 hits, 23 doubles, 11 triples, two homeruns, 68 RBI, 21 stolen bases, a .320 batting average, 162 total bases, and 36 extra-base hits.
Adams makes his first All-OAC selection after a stellar senior campaign where he made 39 appearances with 144 at-bats, 33 runs scored, 47 hits, five doubles, two triples, 22 RBI, seven stolen bases, and a .326 batting average. Defensively Adams made 310 putouts, 19 assists, seven runners caught stealing, with a .982 fielding percentage. In his career, the righty has played in 88 games with 221 at-bats, 47 runs scored, 67 hits, 11 doubles, two triples, 33 RBI, eight stolen bases, and a .303 batting average. Defensively the catcher has 401 putouts, 24 assists, seven runners caught stealing, and a .982 fielding percentage.
Garnering his first All-OAC selection is Pennington. The second baseman played in 40 games with 148 at-bats, scored 34 runs, 45 hits, nine doubles, two triples, 30 RBI, 14 stolen bases, and a .304 batting average. In the field, Pennington made 46 putouts with 83 assists, 18 double-plays turned, and a .963 fielding percentage. In his four years, the righty has played in 94 games with 219 at-bats, 55 runs scored, 65 hits, 10 doubles, two triples, 39 RBI, 16 stolen bases, and a .297 batting average. Defensively he has 99 putouts with 120 assists, 26 double-plays, and a .952 fielding percentage.
Making his first All-OAC selection is Raines. The lefty earns this award after a senior campaign where he made 20 appearances with four starts, a 3-4 record with five saves, one complete game, 65.2 innings pitched, a 3.87 ERA, and 73 strikeouts to land him third in the OAC. For his career, Raines has 56 appearances with five games started, owns an 8-7 record with seven saves, one complete game, 141.1 innings pitched, 144 strikeouts, and a 3.95 ERA.
Filling out the second team, and earning his first All-OAC selection was Nick Smith. The righty earns this honor after leading the OAC with a 1.80 ERA, making nine appearances with eight starts, a 4-1 record, one save, 50.1 innings pitched, and 42 strikeouts. In his career, Nick Smith has made 18 appearances with 13 games started, owns a 7-1 record with one save and one complete game, 79.1 innings pitched, 57 strikeouts, and a 2.84 ERA.
BW finished the 2019 campaign with a 25-15 overall record and a 14-4 mark in the OAC.
