Volleyball Team Defeats Wilmington, 3-0

BEREA, OHIO -- The Baldwin Wallace University volleyball team defeated Ohio Athletic Conference foe Wilmington College in straight sets, 3-0, today (Saturday, October 13, 2012) in the Rudolph Ursprung Gymnasium in the Lou Higgins Center on Homecoming.  The scores of the match were 25-9, 25-7 and 25-23.

With its win, BW improves to 10-15 overall and 2-3 in the OAC. With its loss, Wilmington falls to 7-15 overall and 0-5 in the OAC.

BW was led offensively by senior All-OAC outside hitter Amanda Sawicki (Mentor/Lake Catholic) with 10 kills. In addition, senior right side hitter Karianne Sifferlin (Wooster) contributed eight. Junior setter Emily Nagle (Columbia Station/Columbia) set up the offense and had a match-high 32 set assists.

Defensively, BW was led by senior libero Natalie Emmons (Ashland) with a match-high 16 digs. Junior right side hitter and defensive specialist Shannon Deleur (Olmsted Falls) and sophomore defensive specialist Paige Pileski (Elyria) each tallied six.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, Oct. 16 when they travel to University Heights to play OAC and Cleveland cross-town rival John Carroll University in the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center at 7:00 p.m. BW also is at OAC-rival Capital University in Columbus next Saturday, Oct. 20 at 11:00 a.m. The final two home matches are on Tuesday, Oct. 23 versus the University of Mount Union at 7:00 p.m. and versus Marietta College on Seniors' Day on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 12:00 noon.
