CANTON, N.Y. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's track and field teams set one school record and had two student-athletes earn All-American accolades to stand in third place after the first day of competition at the NCAA Division III National Outdoor Track and Field Championships hosted by St. Lawrence University on the Merrick-Pinkard Track Complex.

The Yellow Jackets were led by junior thrower Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/Kenston) and junior All-American multi-event athlete Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) as each earned All-American accolades.

Gallavan, who will compete in the shot put on Saturday, placed third of 22 competitors in the discus to earn her first career outdoor accolade.  She had a career-best throw of 160 feet and four inches.   Gallavan was just three inches from tying the school-record set by Hall of Famer Claire DeChant in 2001.

Winters, who competes in the 100-meter hurdle prelims on Friday as well as the high jump on Saturday, placed third of 22 competitors in the long jump to earn her second career outdoor honor.  She had a leap of 19'1.25". Winters also qualified for Saturday's 200-meter dash finals as she had a school-record and sixth fastest qualifying time of 24.68 seconds in the prelims.

The second day of the NCAA Championships is set for Friday, May 22.  The Yellow Jacket competitors will compete in the finals of the women's hammer along with qualifying in the women's 100-meter hurdles.
