Yellow Jacket Women's Outdoor Track Places Third at All-Ohio Championships

DELAWARE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team placed third at the All-Ohio Division III Championships hosted by Ohio Wesleyan University on the George Gautier Track at Selby Stadium.

The Yellow Jacket women scored 94.5 points and placed third of 19 teams

Junior All- American Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls), who won last weekend's All-Ohio Combined Events Championships, captured titles in the long jump with a leap of 18 feet and seven inches, the 100-meter hurdles in an All-Ohio Meet-recoord 14.32 seconds and the 200-meter dash in 24.81 seconds. She also placed fifth in the high jump with a leap of 5'1.75". Her time in the 200 meters ranks third in Division III this season, and her time in the 100 hurdles ranks fourth.
 
In addition to Winters for the BW women, junior All-American Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/ Kenston) won the discus with a throw of 144'2" and placed second to teammate and junior Maggie Urban (Cleveland/ St. Joseph Academy) in the hammer with a toss of 165'1".  Urban's winning throw of 169'11" was an All-Ohio Meet record. Gallavan's throw in the discus ranks ninth in Div. III and her toss in the hammer is 14th. Urban's toss in the hammer ranks seventh.

Also, sophomore Erin Kasper (Amherst/ Steele) was second in the high jump with a leap of 5'3.75".
 
BW is back in action next Friday and Saturday, April 17-18 when it hosts the annual Paul "Sparky" Adams Meet at The George Finnie Stadium. Friday's action only consists of the hammer throw for men and women. Saturday's field event action begins at 10 a.m.

As a part of the Adams Meet on Saturday at 12:00 noon, BW will dedicate a life-sized statue of graduate and four-time Olympic gold medalist Harrison Dillard in front of Finnie Stadium.
