Gallavan Earns Second Career and Winters Fifth Straight OAC Indoor Track Weekly Honor

BEREA, Ohio – Junior All-American thrower Kim Gallavan (Auburn Township/Kenston) and junior All-American multi-events athlete Melanie Winters (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) have been named as the Ohio Athletic Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Athletes-of-the-Week.

Gallavan, who earns her second career indoor weekly honor, won the weight throw and the shot put at the annual Greater Cleveland College Championships on Friday night. She also placed sixth in both the weight throw and shot put but was first among Division III competitors at the Kent State University Tune-Up Meet.  

Gallavan won the weight throw with a toss of 55-feet and 10 and one inches and the shot put with a throw of 44'10.75" at the Greater Cleveland Championships.  She had a season-best toss of 56'8.75" in the weight throw and had a mark of 43'11.75" in the shot put at Kent State.

Gallavan
currently ranks fifth in Division III in the weight throw with a toss of 56'8.5" and 11th in the shot put at 45'3".

Winters, who earned her fifth straight and sixth career indoor weekly honor, set one school-record and tied another at Kent State University. She placed third in the 60-meter dash in a school-record tying time of 7.74 seconds, placed sixth in the 200-meter dash in a school-record time of 25.46 seconds and placed seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in a time of 9.73. Winters was the fastest Division III competitor in all three events.  

She is ranked first in Division III  in the long jump and pentathlon. Winters is also third in the 60 meters and 200 dashes, tied for fifth in the 60 hurdles and tied for eighth in the high jump. This winter, she has set seven school-records in the 55-meter dash (7.29 seconds),  60-meter dash (7.74 seconds), 55-meter hurdles (8.24 seconds), 60-meter hurdles (8.80 second), 200-meter dash (25.46 seconds), long jump (19 feet and four inches) and pentathlon (3,599 points).

The indoor track and field teams are back in action this Friday and Saturday, February 27-28 when it travels to Bexley  for the OAC Championship Meet hosted by Capital University in the Capital Center.   The meet begins on Friday at 12 p.m. and 10 a.m. on Saturday.
