BW Women’s Soccer Shuts Out Defiance in Battle of Yellow Jackets

DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team recorded its third shutout victory of the season as it blanked Defiance College, 5-0, in the first game of a women's and men's battle of the Yellow Jackets doubleheader on Winsper-Knobel Memorial Field.

BW (5-3-2) has now won three straight against Defiance (1-8), including two consecutive shutouts.   The Yellow Jackets also held Bluffton University and Ohio Wesleyan University scoreless.

BW scored four goals in the first half and did not look back.   The Yellow Jackets got goals by senior forward Cheryl Bell (Piqua), sophomore All-Ohio Athletic Conference forward Courtney Schutz (Mentor) and the final two by sophomore midfielder Alex Elliott (Blacklick /IMG Academy).  Bell and freshmen forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/Jackson) assisted on two of the goals.

BW scored the lone goal of the second period when Bender knocked in her third goal of the season, as it was unassisted at the 74th minute mark.

Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC netminder Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) recorded four saves and picked up her 22nd career shutout.  Tallmadge improved to 5-3-2 on the season.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, September 30 when they host a non-conference game against Grove City (Pa.) College on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
