BEREA, Ohio – Eight fourth quarter points by sophomore guard Riley Schill (Sheffield Village/Elyria Catholic) helped lift the Baldwin Wallace University women's basketball team over Capital University 54-52 in an Ohio Athletic Conference game inside Ursprung Gymnasium.

Schill tied her previous career high of 16 points as she led the Yellow Jackets (6-3, 2-2 OAC) on the day. Transfer sophomore guard/forward Mary Schentur (Broadview Heights/Brecksville-Broadview Heights) also set a new career high with 11 points and also led the rebounding effort with five boards.

Capital (4-5, 1-3 OAC) was led by Caroline Taphorn who scored 12 points while Regan Stonerock added 11 points of her own.

BW and Capital traded baskets to open the first quarter until the Yellow Jackets went on an 8-0 run highlighted by three-pointers from Schentur and Schill to take a 15-8 lead. Cassidy Bosch put a stop to the run with a layup at the 1:08 mark but Schentur countered by draining another three-pointer as the Yellow Jackets held on for a 18-12 advantage at the end of first quarter.

Senior Academic All-OAC guard Katie Smith (Fairview Park/Fairview) and Schill opened up BW's second quarter scoring with three-pointers to give the Yellow Jackets a double-digit advantage, 24-14, with 7:39 remaining in the half. The Crusaders went on a 7-0 run thanks to two key three pointers from freshman Elle Folan, bringing Capital within three points at 24-21 with 3:56 left in the period. With both teams defenses dominating the quarter, BW held on to a 26-23 lead at halftime.

Capital started the second half on a 7-0 run, taking a four-point lead at 30-26, while the Yellow Jackets struggled to find the bottom of the net, missing their first six shots. Five straight points by Schentur brought BW back in front 31-30 with 6:17 remaining in the quarter before the Crusaders answered with an 8-0 run. Two free throws by sophomore guard Tiffany Bentler (North Canton/Hoover) put a stop to the run and BW headed into the final period down 38-35.

Schill's third trey of the game pulled BW within one point of the Crusaders, down 39-38 with 8:36 left while a jumper by junior Academic All-OAC guard MacKenzi Matthews (North Royalton) helped the Yellow Jackets regain a 42-41 lead at the 6:14 mark. Schill hit yet another three-pointer with 3:38 remaining for a 45-43 lead but Capital quickly tied the game at 45-45 on the ensuing possession. The sophomore then tied her single game career high when she made a layup at the 1:25 mark to give BW a 49-47 lead. Freshman forward Sydney Diedrich (Chardon/Gilmour Academy), sophomore guard/forward Kara Marshall (Copley/Akron Archbishop Hoban), sophomore guard Kasey Hughes (Springboro) and junior All-OAC guard Hannah Fecht (Hilliard/Davidson) each made key free throws down the stretch to seal a 54-52 victory.
