BW Baseball Team Drops Game to Non-Conference Foe Denison

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University baseball lost to non-conference foe Denison University, 7-0, on the new Pro Grass turf infield at Fisher Field.

Denison (11-5) scored once in the second, three times in the third and once more in the sixth to build a 5-0 advantage. The Big Red scored their final two runs in the top of the ninth.

On the mound, freshman right-hander Brandon Lekan (Strongsville) started and pitched the first two and two-third innings and suffered the loss to fall to 1-3 this season. He was relieved in the third by senior righty Brandon Cichocki (Walled Lake, Mich./ Central) who got the final out of the third. Junior righty Logan Heffernan (Lebanon) in the fourth and pitched five solid innings, allowed five hits and one run (earned), struck out six and walked three. Freshman righty Danny Cody (Brecksville/ Brecksville-Broadview Heights) pitched the ninth.

At the plate, BW (8-14) managed just four base hits with senior All-OAC first baseman/ DH Hunter Handel (Akron/ Green), junior 1B/3B Kevin Hagen (Brecksville/ Cleveland St. Ignatius), sophomore catcher Trent Kaltenbach (Plain City/ Jonathan Alder) and freshman outfielder Phil Wells (Buffalo, N.Y./ Saint Joseph's Collegiate) each getting a base hit.

BW is back in action on Saturday, April 9 when the Yellow Jackets travel to OAC baseball arch-rival Marietta College for an OAC twinbill at Don Schaly Stadium. The first game starts at 1 p.m.

 

Fans are reminded that the official dedication ceremony for Fisher Field will take place on Saturday, April 23 at 12 noon and prior to BW's Ohio Athletic Conference doubleheader versus Capital University. The first game begins at 1 p.m. The next home games are on Wednesday, April 14 when BW hosts OAC foe Heidelberg University in an OAC twinbill at Fisher Field at 1 p.m.
