Women's Outdoor Track and Field Reaches Eighth Place at 54th Sparky Adams Invitational; Competes at Jesse Owens Classic

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team competed at its first home meet of the outdoor season in the 54th Sparky Adams Invitational.

BW placed eighth out of 16 participating teams with 32 points. John Carroll University won the meet with 112 points.

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Freshman Rylee Barno (Columbus / Bexley) placed third in the 1500-meter run in a time of 4:47.81.
  • Freshman Sara Blahovec (Greensburg, Pa. / Greensburg Central Catholic) finished eighth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:15.88.
  • Junior All-American distance runner Hope Murphy (Mogadore) finished ninth in the 800-meter run in a time of 2:22.81.
  • Junior Kenni Voytek (Valley View / Cuyahoga Heights) placed ninth in the 400-meter hurdles in a time of 1:17.96.

Field events highlights:

  • Freshman Rylee Gorrell (Grove City, Pa. / Grove City Area) finished second in the high jump with a mark of 1.59 meters.
  • Freshman All-Ohio Athletic Conference shot putter Amyah Chosa (Jemez Pueblo, N.M. / Jemez Valley) placed second in the shot put with a distance of 12.76 meters.
  • Junior Abby Lorincz (Avon) finished seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 10.34 meters.

On the relay side:

  • In the 4x400 meter relay crew, Barno, sophomore All-OAC distance runner Katie Plecko (Rootstown), freshman Alanna Barnett (Sheffield Lake / Brookside) and junior Erica Bowers (Martinsburg, W. Va. / Hedgesville) placed seventh in a time of 4:21.79.

Select members of the women's outdoor track and field team competed at the Jesse Owens Classic, hosted by NCAA Division I Ohio State University. The meet was unscored.

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included:

  • Junior All-OAC sprinter Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) placed 17th in the 400-meter dash and 29th in the 200-meter dash, with a time of 58.04 in the 400 and 25.21 in the 200.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday, April 25 as they compete in the Walsh Tune-Up.
