Bowers, Jones, and Others Earn All-OAC Honors; Women's Outdoor Track and Field Sits in Sixth Place After Day One of OAC Championships

TIFFIN, Ohio - The Baldwin Wallace University women's outdoor track and field team sits in sixth place after the first day of the two-day Ohio Athletic Conference Championships, hosted by Heidelberg University.

BW is sixth of nine teams with 17 points. Ohio Northern University is in first place with 106 points.

The Yellow Jackets individual events highlights included: 

  • Sophomore All-OAC distance runner Charlotte Jones (Brecksville / Brecksville-Broadview Heights) earned her first career All-OAC honors after placing third in the 3000-meter steeplechase in a time of 12:00.45.
  • In the 400-meter dash prelims, junior All-OAC sprinter Abby Collier (Dublin / Coffman) qualifies for the finals by finishing first in a time of 56.92. Collier also qualifies for the 200-meter dash finals after placing third in the prelims in a time of 24.76.
  • In the 100-meter dash prelims, freshman All-OAC sprinter Bri Hay (Miami, Fla. / Miramar) qualifies for the finals after placing third in a time of 12.28.

Field events highlighted:

  • Junior Lilly Johns (Garrettsville / James A. Garfield) finished sixth in the discus throw with a distance of 36.22 meters.
  • Freshman All-OAC thrower Amyah Chosa (Jemez Pueblo, N.M. / Jemez Valley) placed 10th in the javelin throw with a mark of 28.73 meters.
  • Freshman Ava Eagle (Wooster) finished 12th in the long jump with a distance of 4.96 meters.

On the relay side:

  • In the 4x800 relay crew, freshman Rylee Barno (Columbus / Bexley), junior Erica Bowers (Martinsburg, W. Va. / Hedgesville), junior All-American Hope Murphy (Mogadore), and sophomore Katie Plecko (Rootstown) earned outdoor All-OAC honors after finishing third in a time of 9:30.46.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, May 3 for the second and final day of the OAC Outdoor Championships. Friday's action is scheduled to begin at 11:00 a.m. inside of Hoernemann Stadium.
