Women’s Tennis Finishes Fall Season at ITA Championships

OBERLIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team competed at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Central Region Championships, hosted by Oberlin College, over the weekend to wrap up the fall portion of its 2017-18 schedule.

Junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference Imani Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts) had the strongest showing for the Yellow Jackets (1-1) in the "Oberlin Open," a separate event from the ITA championship draw. Robinson played two matches in the Oberlin Open and emerged with two victories, beating Lauren Solano from Albion (Mich.) College 3-6, 7-5, 10-5 and Lucy Deal from Denison University 6-0, 6-3.

Freshman Ashtyn Morris (Salem) also represented the Yellow Jackets in the Oberlin Open and had a tough test against Makayla Sutter from Otterbein University, splitting the first two sets in tiebreakers before ultimately dropping the third set 10-7.

In the ITA Doubles Championship bracket, Robinson paired up with younger sister Jayde Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts) while Morris and freshman Becca Liebler (Medina) also teamed up. The Robinson sisters matched up against fellow OAC competitors Lauren O'Malley and Madisyn Rini from John Carroll University, losing 8-2, while Liebler and Morris faced off with Sanjna Tripathy and Lisa Chionis from Washington University in St. Louis, falling 8-3.

Jayde Robinson was the lone Yellow Jacket in the ITA Singles draw but was overmatched by Monica Behrle from Webster (Miss.) University and could not take a game in a 6-0, 6-0 loss.

BW will look to take the experience gained from competing at the ITAs and use it to prepare for the spring portion of the schedule. The Yellow Jackets will hit the courts once again on Saturday, Feb. 3, 2018, when they travel up to Michigan to take on Kalamazoo College and Albion College at 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., respectively.
