Men’s and Women’s Tennis Play Rare Dual Match on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio --   In a rare Ohio Athletic Conference men's and women's dual match, the Baldwin Wallace University men's and women's tennis teams closed the regular season portion of theirs schedule with a Senior's and Parents' Day matches against Otterbein University.

The match which began with doubles being played on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts was finished indoors at the North Ridge Tennis and Golf Club in North Ridgeville.  The BW and Otterbein women's and men's teams played simultaneously on the courts.

The Yellow Jacket men defeated the Cardinals by a score of 6-3 to secure the fourth seed and a home match in next week's OAC Tournament.  The BW women fell to Otterbein by a score of 8-1 and will travel to Alliance as the fifth seed in next week's tournament. 

For the men, the doubles team of junior Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Scholar Athlete and All-OAC players Dominic Polifrone (Hudson) and Matt Harris (Akron/Revere) as well as the tandem of junior ITA Scholar Athlete Roger Boyer (Medina/Brunswick) and freshman Michael Benotti (Pittsford, N.Y./Pittsford Mendon) each claimed victories.   Polifrone, Harris, sophomore Jake Elbin (Findlay) and Benotti all won singles to secure the victory.

In the women's match, freshman Ashtyn Morris (Salem) secured the only point of the match for the Yellow Jackets as she won her third singles match by identical scores of 6-4.

The BW men open the OAC Tournament on Tuesday, May 1 when they host the fifth seeded Otterbein Cardinals in a quarterfinal match on the Pop Collins Tennis Courts at 3:30 p.m.

The Yellow Jacket women open the OAC Tournament on Tuesday, May 1 when they travel to Alliance to face fourth seeded University of Mount Union at 3:30 p.m.
