TIFFIN, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's tennis team recorded its second straight Ohio Athletic Conference shutout with a 9-0 victory over Heidelberg University at the Heidelberg Tennis Courts.
The two teams were originally scheduled to play on Wednesday but the match was postponed due to the weather forecast.
Winners of its last three matches, BW (10-8, 3-3 OAC) opened up the shutout by sweeping all three doubles points. Freshmen Becca Liebler (Medina) and Ashtyn Morris (Salem) cruised to an 8-2 victory at No. 2 doubles while senior Shannon Finkenthal (Beachwood) and junior Kathleen Moser (Strongsville) were able to keep Heidelberg (0-13, 0-6 OAC) off its toes in an 8-4 win at No. 3. Meanwhile, junior All-OAC player Imani Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts) and freshman Jayde Robinson (Cincinnati/School for Creative & Performing Arts) faced a difficult test at No. 1 doubles as the sisters needed a tiebreaker to secure the doubles sweep with a 9-8(2) win.
Carrying over the momentum from her hard-earned doubles win, Imani Robinson notched her second consecutive conference win at No. 1 singles with scores of 6-2, 6-3, and the rest of the lineup followed suit. Morris earned the first OAC singles win of her career by defeating her Student Prince opponent 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. At No. 3 and No. 4 singles, Liebler and Finkenthal won 6-2, 6-3, and 6-3, 6-0, respectively. Senior All-OAC player Kelly Peskura (Strongsville) did not give up a single game in her 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles while senior Kayla Eeg (Waterford, Pa./General McLane) recorded a 6-3, 6-3 win at No. 6.
With just two conference matches remaining, the Yellow Jackets currently sit in a tie for fifth place with Capital University at 3-3. The top six teams make the OAC tournament while the top two seeds receive a bye to the semifinal matches. First round matches will be played on May 1.
BW will have a quick turnaround as the Yellow Jackets continue OAC play on the road on Saturday, April 21, against fellow fifth-place team Capital at 1 p.m. at the Capital Tennis Courts.
