DELAWARE, OHIO – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team opened the 2016-17 by splitting a pair of dual meets on Saturday and Sunday.
The Yellow Jackets were led against Wilmington by junior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor/Pioneer) and freshman Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion L. Steele) as the duo each won a pair of races. Miller won the 800-yard freestyle in a time of 10:18.73 and the 100-yard backstroke in a time of 1:13.20. Thorson touched the wall first in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:16.08 and the 400-yard freestyle in a time of 4:50.96.
In addition, sophomore Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y. /Williamsville South) and freshmen Ellie Clymer (Independence) and Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) all picked up wins. Krupp earned the victory in the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:41.63. Clymer won the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:23.67. Nockengost was first in the 100-yard butterfly in a time of 1:12.42 and second in the 200-yard IM in a time of 2:41.63.
BW was led against Ohio Wesleyan by freshman freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) and Thorson as the pair won two events. Jacob won the 500-yard freestyle in a time of 5:33.12 and the 1000-yard freestyle in a time of 11:19.89. Thorson won the 100-yard butterfly in a career-best time of 1:02.30 and the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 2:02.07. Clymer also earned a victory in the 1-meter diving with 147.15 points.
The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Saturday, October 29 when they travel to Bethany, West Virginia for a pair of dual meets against Bethany College and Hiram College in the John J. Knight Natatorium at 1 p.m. BW opens the home portion of their schedule on Saturday, November 5 when it hosts an OAC meet against Manchester (Ind.) University in the BW Natatorium at 1 p.m.
