Women's Swimming and Diving Finishes Fifth at Blue Devil Invitational

FREDONIA, N.Y. – The Baldwin Wallace University women's and men's swimming and diving teams placed fifth and sixth at the three-day Blue Devil Invitational hosted by Fredonia State University in the Steele Hall Natatorium.

BW placed fifth of nine teams with 350 points.  Fellow Ohio Athletic Conference member and cross-town rival John Carroll University was the champion with 942.50 points.  

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls) and freshman freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele).  Nockengost was fourth in the 200-yard butterfly as well as ninth in the 100-yard butterfly and 200-yard breaststroke.  She had career-best times of 2:21.57 in the 200-fly, 1:02.62 in the 100-fly and 2:39.34 in the 200-breast. Thorson was ninth in the 200-yard individual medley, the 200-yard freestyle and the 500-yard freestyle. She posted career-best times of 2:15.77 in the 200-IM, 1:58.48 in the 200-free and 5:18.83 in the 500-free. 

In addition, junior stroker Sarah Krupp (Williamsville, N.Y./Williamsville South) was third in the 400-yard individual medley and fifth in the 200-yard butterfly.  Krupp had season-best times of 4:56.42 in the 400-IM and 2:22.73 in the 200-fly. Freshman stroker/diver Ellie Clymer (Independence) was seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke and eighth in the 1-meter diving.  Clymer had a career-best time of 1:12.53 int eh 100-breast and 246.90 points in the 1-meter. Freshman freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) was fourth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 10th in the 500-yard freestyle.  Jacob had career-best times of 18:49.42 in the 1,650-free and 5:27.38 in the 500-free. 

Also, junior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) was ninth in the 200-yard backstroke in a career-best time of 2:15.98. Sophomore diver Elizabeth Sant (Mount Vernon) was ninth in the 1-meter diving with 229.80 points. 

In relay action, the 200-yard freestyle team of freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry), sophomore stroker Claire Onchuck (Darien, Ill. /Hinsdale South), Thorson and Miller finished ninth in a season-best time of 1:46.48. The 200-yard medley relay unit of junior freestyler Nicole Gladish (Fairview Park/Fairview), Clymer, Nockengost and Kortis placed eighth in a season-best time of 1:57.01.  The 400-yard medley relay squad of Miller, Clymer, Nockengost and Kortis took 10th in a season-best time of 4:25.46. The 400-yard freestyle team of Kortis, Miller, freshman freestyler Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.) and Thorson finished sixth in a season-best time of 3:45.25.  The 800-yard freestyle relay unit of Thorson, Jacob, Onchuck and Miller finished fourth in a season-best time of 8:06.28.

BW returns to action on Friday, January 6, 2017 when it hosts a non-conference dual meet against Widener (Pa.) University as part of its annual winter training session in Florida at the Sarasota, Florida YMCA at 3 p.m.
