Women's Swimming and Diving Team Knocks Off NCAA Division II Malone

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team won a non-conference dual meet against NCAA Division II Malone University in the BW Natatorium.

The Yellow Jacket women (6-3) defeated the Pioneers by a final score of 148-91.

The women's squad was led by junior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry) and freshman freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion Steele) as each won a pair of races.  Kortis won the 50-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 26.46 seconds and was the champ in the 100-yard freestyle in a time of 58.74.  Thorson finished first in the 200-yard butterfly in a career-best time of 2:20.86 and was the champ in the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 2:01.12

In addition, freshman freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley) earned the victory in the 1,000-yard freestyle and was second in the 500-yard freestyle with times of 11:27.20 and 5:33.94. Freshman stroker Erika Nockengost(Cuyahoga Falls) won the 200-yard individual medley in a time of 2:23.30 and was the runner-up in the 200-yard breaststroke in a time of 2:41.99. Junior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) won the 200-yard backstroke in a time of 2:21.63.  Freshman diver/stroker Ellie Clymer (Independence) won the five-dive 1-meter event with 131.50 points.  Sophomore freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darien, Ill./Hinsdale South) was second in the 50-yard freestyle in a time of 27.38. Sophomore diver Elizabeth Sant (Mount Vernon) was second in the six-dive 1-meter event with 112.75 points.

In relay action, the 400-yard freestyle squad of Thorson, freshman freestyler Jenna Ball (Salamanca, N.Y.), freshman freestyler Alyssa Mahle (Aurora) and Onchuck touched the wall first in a time of 4:03.33.  The 400-yard medley unit of MillerClymerNockengost and Kortis won in a season-best time of 4:20.18.
