Women’s Swimming and Diving Falls to Mount Union in OAC Dual

BEREA, Ohio – The Baldwin Wallace University women's swimming and diving team closed out a four-meet home stand as it dropped an Ohio Athletic Conference dual meet against the University of Mount Union in the BW Natatorium. 

BW (5-2, 2-1 OAC), who snapped four-meet winning streak, was defeated by Mount Union by a final score of 163-124.

The Yellow Jackets were led by was freshman freestyler Allie Thorson (Amherst/Marion L. Steele) as she won one event and was the runner-up in two others.  Thorson won the 200-yard individual medley in a career-best time of 2:20.10.  She was second in the 200-yard freestyle in a career-best time of 2:01.10 and the 500-yard freestyle in a career-best time of. 5:27.39. 


Earning a victory were freshman diver Ellie Clymer (Independence) and freshman freestyler Olivia Jacob (Canton/McKinley).  Clymer claimed the 1-meter 6-dive victory with a career-best 161.45 points.  Jacob earned a win in the 1000-yard freestyle with a career-best time 11:22.87.

Also, earning a runner-up finishes were junior freestyler Lena Kortis (Canton/Massillon Perry), junior freestyler Jordyn Miller (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer), sophomore diver Elizabeth Sant (Mount Vernon), freshman stroker Erika Nockengost (Cuyahoga Falls).  Kortis was second in the 100-yard freestyle in a season-best time of 58.44. Miller was the runner-up in the 100-yard backstroke in a season-best time of 1:05.96. Sant took second in the five-dive 1-meter competition with a career-best 126.65 points. Nockengost was second in the 100-yard breaststroke in a time of 1:13.73

In relay action, the 200-yard freestyle team of Kortis, Miller, sophomore freestyler Claire Onchuck (Darien, Ill. /Hinsdale South) and Thorson won in a season-best time of 1:45.85.


BW is back in action on Friday through Sunday, December 2-4 when it travels to Fredonia, New York to compete in the annual Blue Devil Invitational hosted by Fredonia State University in the Steele Hall Natatorium.  Friday's action begins at 4 p.m.   Saturday and Sunday's prelims will begin at 10 am with finals being contested at 5 p.m. on Saturday and 4 p.m. on Sunday.  Fans can follow all of the action via live results at http://www.sidearmstats.com/fredonia/swim/
