Three Second Half Goals Lead Women’s Soccer Past Mount Union

ALLIANCE,Ohio—The Baldwin Wallace University women's soccer team defeated Ohio Athletic conference rival the University of Mount Union, 4-1, Tuesday evening inside of Mount Union Stadium. 

BW (9-4-2, 3-1 OAC) scored early when freshman forward Rachel Bender (Massillon/ Jackson) netted her eighth goal of the season. Ten minutes later Mt. Union (5-8, 1-3 OAC) tied the game up with a goal of its own and the game was knotted at 1-1 prior to halftime. 

In the second half, the Yellow Jackets regained a 2-1 lead when sophomore midfielder Anna Poptic (Dublin/ Jerome) scored her third goal of the season in the 60th minute. 

BW sealed the game with two late goals. Freshman midfielder Cassandra Waickman (Stow/Stow-Munroe Falls) scored her second goal of the season in the 74th minute for a 3-1 lead. Bender scored her second goal of the game and team-leading ninth of the season at the 76:55 mark to make it 4-1.

In goal, senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC netminder Emily Tallmadge (Fairview, Pa.) made five saves for the Yellow Jackets and improved her record to 9-4-2 this season. 

The Yellow Jackets next game is on Friday, October 16 when they host Wilmington College in an OAC contest on Tressel Field inside of The George Finnie Stadium at 7 p.m.
