No. 9 Wrestling Team Earns Two Shutouts at Mel Berry Duals

GREENVILLE, Pa. – The No. 9-nationally ranked Baldwin Wallace University wrestling team earned two shutout victories at the Mel Berry Duals hosted by Thiel (Pa.) College in the Beeghly Gymnasium.

BW (17-3) defeated Mercyhurst North East (Pa.) by a score of 55-0 and Thiel by a score of 48-0.

In the Mercyhurst North East match, freshman 133-pounder Charlie Nash (Norwalk), sophomore 174-pounder Justin Ransom (Madison), junior All-Ohio Athletic Conference 197-pounder Tyler Maclellan (Medina/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and junior 285-pounder Gabe Mahaney (Green) each won their respective matches by pinfall. Senior All-OAC 157-pounder David Shapiro (Beachwood) won his bout by a score of 16-0 to earn a technical fall. Sophomore All-OAC 165-pounder Anthony Arroyo (Maumee) and sophomore 184-pounder Zeckary Lehman (Akron/Revere) each won by major decision. Arroyo won his bout a 10-2 count and Lehman earned an 8-0 victory. In addition, junior All-OAC 125-pounder Chris Doyle (Akron/Green), senior All-OAC 141-pounder Josh Decatur (Akron/Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy) and senior 149-pounder Patt McGinnis (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Cedar Creek) won by forfeit.

Against Thiel, Arroyo, Lehman and Mahaney each pinned their opponent's. Doyle, Nash and senior 174-pounder Graham Montague (Independence) won their respective weight classes by technical fall. Doyle won the 125-pound bout a score of 18-2, Nash earned a 16-0 victory in the 133-pound match and Montague won by a 16-0 count. McGinnis earned a victory in the 149-pound match with a 9-3 decision, Shapiro won his bout by a 10-4 count and Maclellan earned a 5-4 victory. Senior 149-pounder Zack Taylor (Brunswick) won by forfeit.  

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Tuesday, January 24 when they travel to Westerville for an OAC dual match against Otterbein University in the Rike Center at 7:30 p.m.
