Women’s Lacrosse Defeats Ohio Northern on Seniors’ Day

BEREA, Ohio The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team stayed on top of the Ohio Athletic Conference standings as it posted a 18-1 Seniors' and Parents' Day game victory over Ohio Northern University on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium.

BW (11-2, 6-0 OAC), who is the only undefeated team in the OAC, was led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River), who is this week's OAC Offensive Player of the Week. Russell scored a game-high tying three goals and added two assists for a game-high five points. In addition, senior attack All-OAC Academic Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind.) netted a career-high three goals and junior All-OAC midfielder Kayla Miller (Hudson) scored three goals and added one assists for four points.

Ohio Northern (3-10, 2-3 OAC) was led by freshman attack Katie McCourt as she scored the lone Polar Bears. In addition backup freshman goalkeeper Kelli Hill made a game-high seven saves.

Senior All-OAC netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) picked up the victory and recorded her career-high 11th win of the season.

In the first half, the Yellow Jackets outshot Ohio Northern 21-0 and scored the only 13 goals with the last goal coming at the 1:43 mark when freshman defender Hannah Stein (Medina/Highland) netted an unassisted goal. Russell led the way in the first half with three goals. Turner, Miller and sophomore Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) each scored two goals and senior attack Katie Kocher (Rocky River), sophomore Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green), freshman attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) and Stein each chipped in one goal each.

BW outscored the Polar Bears 5-1 in the second half and held the Ohio Northern to just two shots. Sophomore midfielder Mackenzie Moran (Carlisle, Pa.) led the way with two goals.  Turner, junior defender Taylor Giordanengo (Cranberry Township, Pa./Seneca Valley) each scored one and Miller closed out the scoring with 32 seconds on the clock off a feed from Albrechta.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Thursday, April 20 when the team plays its final non-conference game against the College of Wooster on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 7:30 p.m.
