Women’s Lacrosse Shares OAC Regular Season Crown with Loss to Mount Union in Overtime

BEREA, Ohio The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team won a share of the Ohio Athletic Conference regular season title in its 10-9 overtime loss to the University of Mount Union on Tressel Field inside of George Finnie Stadium. 

BW (12-3, 7-1 OAC), who snapped a seven-game winning streak, shared the OAC title for the second time in school history and the first since the 2014 season.   The Yellow Jackets also finished with one loss in conference play for the first time since 2014.  Mount Union (10-3, 6-1 OAC) now needs a win in its final game on Saturday, April 29 to earn its fifth shared or outright regular season title.

BW was led by senior attack Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind.), sophomore attack Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt), sophomore attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) and freshman attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) as all scored two goals.  Albrechta and Turner each added an assist.

The Purple Raiders were led by Danielle Rohrman with three goals, including the game-winner.  Katie Elder and Britt Klosterman each tallied two goals.

Mount Union jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Danielle Rohrman scored on the free position at the 28:18 mark.  The Yellow Jackets answered back with a 2-0 run to tie the game at 2-2 when Albrechta found the back of the cage at 17:25 mark.  The Purple Raiders responded with a 2-0 run to take at 4-2 advantage when Alyssa Rydell scored at the 9:00 mark.   BW closed out the first half on a 2-0 run to tie the game at 4-4 on back-to-back goals from Martineau with the last coming with 1:58 remaining.

The Yellow Jackets opened the second half on a 2-0 run to take a 6-4 lead when Patrick scored the unassisted goal on the man down situation at the 18:44 mark.  Mount Union cut the lead down to 6-5 when Mackenzie Pensyl scored the unassisted goal at 17:45. After a goal by Albrechta, the Purple Raiders scored three unanswered goals to take an 8-7 when Elder found the back of the cage at the 10:55 mark.  BW tied the game at 8-8 when senior attack Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind.) scored the unassisted goal at 9:20.   Mount Union took a 9-8 lead on a goal by Britt Klosterman at the 8:01 mark.   The Yellow Jackets forced the game into overtime when Turner found the back of the cage to tie the game at 9-9 at the 2:23 mark. 

The Purple Raiders won the game as Rohrman scored the golden goal with 1:41 remaining in the first overtime period. 

BW senior All-OAC netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) faced 21shots, allowed 10 goals and made eight saves.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Wednesday, May 3 when they will host an OAC Tournament semifinal game at 7:30 p.m.   The OAC Championship will be contested on Saturday, May 6 on the campus of the highest remaining seed after the semifinals.
