GRAND LAKE, COLO. – Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse All-Ohio Athletic Conference midfielder and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River) and senior All-OAC midfielder Katie Kocher (Rocky River) have been selected to the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Great Lakes Region team.
Russell, who garners her third straight IWLCA All-Great Lakes region accolade, was named to the first-team after being selected to the second-team in 2015 and 2016. Earlier this season, she became the first women's lacrosse player in OAC history to earn first-team honors in all four years. In addition to her first-team selection, Russell was named the OAC midfielder of the Year this season. She was the OAC Defender of the Year in 2015. This season, Russell led the team in goals (38), ground balls (73), draw controls (56), caused turnovers (35) and free-positon goals (10) and was second on the team in points with 52 and tied for third in assists with 14. For her career, Russell is the school's all-time leader in ground balls (285), points (233), draw controls (199), caused turnovers (174), goals (152) and free position goals (41). She ranks second all-time in assists with 81. Russell is first among NCAA Division III active career leaders in caused turnovers and is second in ground balls. She is a candidate to earn her third Academic All-OAC honor and her second College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-District 7 selection.
Kocher earns her second straight IWLCA All-Great Lakes Region second-team honor. Earlier this season, she garnered her fourth career All-OAC honor and was named to first-team for the second time in her career. She was a first-team selection in 2014 and a second-team selection in 2015 and 2016. This season, Kocher led the team in points (53) and assists (38). She second in caused turnovers with 25 and third in ground balls with 37. For her career, Kocher ranks the all-time leaders in school history as she is first in assists (157), second in points (220), ground balls (171), draw controls (101) and caused turnovers (100) and seventh in goals (63). She ranks among the active career leaders in NCAA Division III as she is second in assists and seventh in assists-per-game with 2.42.
BW finished the 2017 campaign with an overall record of 13-4 and finished as co-champions in the OAC regular season with a record of 7-1. The Yellow Jackets advanced to the OAC Tournament Championship game for the third time in four seasons.
