Women’s Lacrosse Stays Perfect in OAC Play with Defeat of Cross-Town Rival John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio The Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team remained undefeated in Ohio Athletic Conference action as it defeated John Carroll University by a final score of 12-7 on Wasmer Field inside Don Shula Stadium.

BW (10-2, 5-0 OAC), who is the only undefeated team in the OAC, was led by senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Lakewood/Rocky River), who is this week's OAC Offensive Player of the Week, as she scored a game-high five goals and added one assist for a game-high six points.  Junior All-OAC midfielder Kayla Miller (Hudson), sophomore attack Megan Patrick (Ravenna/Kent Roosevelt) and freshman attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) each contributed two goals. 

John Carroll (7-4, 2-2 OAC) was led by Grace and Curatolo Gina Vilsack with two goals apiece.  

The Blue Streaks opened the scoring when Brooke McQuinn, who is this week's OAC Defender of the Week, found the back of the cage at the 24:22 mark.   The Yellow Jackets responded with a 2-0 run to take a 2-1 advantage when freshman defender Hannah Stein (Medina/Highland) scored her second goal of the season at 17:13. John Carroll tied the game at 2-2 when Colleen Grombala at the 16:36 mark.  BW closed out the half on a 4-1 run to take a 6-3 lead heading into the locker room.  The Yellow Jackets got their final goal of the first half when Patrick found the back of the cage with 1:41 remaining.

The Blue Streaks opened the second half scoring and cut the lead down to 6-4 when Gina Vilsack just 23 seconds into the final period.  BW responded with a 3-0 run to push its lead to 9-4 when Russell found the back of the cage at the 20:34 mark.  John Carroll cut the lead down to 9-5 on tally by Vilsack at 17:44. The Yellow Jackets used a 2-0 run to extend its lead to 11-5 when Russell tallied the goal at the 11:46 mark.   The Blue Streaks answered back with a 2-0 run of their own to cut the lead down to 11-7 on the score from Curatolo at 8:23. BW closed out the scoring in the game when Martineau put up the final tally with 5:22 remaining.

Senior All-OAC netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) faced 31 shots, allowed seven goals and made 15 saves for her career-high 10th victory of the season.

The Yellow Jackets are back in action on Friday, April 14 when the team hosts an OAC and Seniors' Day game against Ohio Northern University on the Tressel Field inside George Finnie Stadium at 1 p.m.
