Albrechta’s Overtime Game-Winner Sends Women’s Lacrosse to OAC Tournament Championship

BEREA, Ohio – Sophomore attack Hannah Albrechta (Uniontown/Green) sent the Baldwin Wallace University women's lacrosse team back to the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship Game when she scored the game-winning goal in overtime in 9-8 OAC Tournament semifinal game against third-seed Capital University on the Tressel Field inside the George Finnie Stadium. 

BW (14-3) advances to the OAC Tournament Championship game on Saturday, May 6 against the top-seed University of Mount Union inside Mount Union Stadium with a time to be announced. Capital (11-5) concluded its season.

The Yellow Jackets were led by freshman attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) as she scored a game-high tying four goals and added an assist for a team-high five points.  Senior All-OAC and Academic All-OAC midfielder Maddie Russell (Rocky River) added three goals.

The Crusaders were led by Kara Hines with a game-high tying four goals.

BW jumped out to an early 2-0 lead when senior attack Jenna Turner (Carmel, Ind.) scored off an assist from freshman attack Brie Martineau (Strongsville) at the 26:54 mark.   Capital tied the game at 2-2 when Hines buried an unassisted goal at 16:22. Each team scored a goal in the final 16 minutes of the half to make the score at 3-3 with the last coming when Crusader junior midfielder Victoria Husain at the 3:39 mark off a free position.  

In the second half, Capital went on a 3-0 run capped off by another goal by Hines at the 24:46 mark to make the score 6-3. BW answered with a 4-0 run to take a 7-6 lead when Russell netted her 36th goal of the year at 10:27. The Crusaders tied the game at 7-7 when junior defender Mary Manos scored at the 10:06 mark.  Capital took the lead at 8-7 when Korri Titus scored on a free position at 5:17.   The Yellow Jackets tied the game and forced the game into the extra session when Martineau scored on a free position with 1:37 left in regulation. 

BW won the game in the first overtime period when Albrechta scored the unassisted goal with 1:58 left in the three-minute extra session.

Yellow Jacket senior All-OAC netminder Amanda Getto (Medina) earned her career-best 13th victory as she faced 17 shots, allowed eight goals and made nine saves. 

The winner of Saturday's championship game will receive an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Women'Lacrosse National Tournament.
